Anna Jones has been the School Counselor at Alcuin since the fall of 2021, working first with Elementary through Upper School, now focusing mainly on Middle and Upper School students. Her role involves supporting students through individual counseling, whole-group lessons, presentations from outside mental health professionals, and teacher/parent collaboration. She’s been able to jump into other Alcuin programs by being a Personal Project Supervisor and a trip chaperone. She loves her direct work with Alcuin’s dynamic, driven students and her varied roles allow her to understand and connect with the whole child.
Prior to her arrival at Alcuin, Anna received a BA in Psychology and Italian Studies from Bucknell University. After college, Anna spent time teaching, working first as an English conversation teacher at two different high schools in Italy, then as an elementary teacher in Austin, TX. Upon realizing her strength lay more in teaching students how to be good people (rather than good readers or mathematicians), she attended Villanova University where she received her MS in Counseling.
Outside of work, you can find Anna traveling the world both with and without Alcuin students—30 countries so far and counting! If she could advise younger students on anything, it would be to engage in travel as much as possible, as it teaches one so much about the world and themselves. Anna is also a figure skater, and she’s often twirling around on the ice at any of the local Starcenters. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends as well, exploring the restaurants, trails, and everything else that Dallas has to offer.
