Clubs and Activities

A Place for Everyone

The fun gets kicked up a notch when classes end - just ask members of Amplify, the school’s student-run band, as they set up for a concert in The Nest, or the film club as they put the finishing touches on a documentary they’re submitting to South by Southwest.

At Alcuin, every club is student-established and student-run. Whether the focus is on taking a deeper dive into creative pursuits, fundraising for charitable causes, exploring vehicles for social impact, or promoting community connection through Student Council, the wide variety of extracurricular activities encourages students to pursue their passions outside of the classroom. Starting in Middle School, these clubs and activities encourage students to develop leadership, planning, and time management skills, while creating new friendships across campus.

The Alcuin School Inclusion Committee (ASIC)

The Alcuin School Inclusion Committee (ASIC) is a group of students dedicated to creating an inclusive and equitable community at Alcuin and beyond. The club creates programming and holds events around diversity while seeking to create social change.
Amplify

Amplify is a group of 7-12th level students who enjoy playing music. The only requirement to join is some background in music, whether it be instrumental or vocal, and a desire to play and perform music with other students. Once the group is set, repertoire will be decided and students will pick which songs they’d like to perform. Amplify performs at various events throughout the school year, including a show in the spring.
Blender Club

The Blender Club is a place to learn about 3D design in the free and open-source software, Blender. Blender is a powerful tool for design and 3D art, and the club is a great way to learn the skills and knowledge needed to use it.
Alcuin Creative Writing Club

Nest, the Alcuin Creative Writing Club, gives students the chance to be expressive and to let their imaginations run free. Every meeting, members write and share their poetry and short stories. The club welcomes all students with a story to tell and an idea that is burning inside them. Nest is also the name of Alcuin's official creative writing journal, edited and designed by club members.
Debate Club

Alcuin Debate Club offers students an outlet to continue to debate and helps them learn how to build a convincing case and advocate for themselves. By creating an outlet for motivated students to participate in debate throughout high school, the club allows students to build confidence and practice forming an argument with logic and conviction. These skills will be applicable in academic and extracurricular circumstances and help students achieve their goals in and outside of the club.
Drumline

Drumline is a spirit group made up of 15-20 students who enjoy playing and performing at school events. During a normal school year drumline meets on Tuesdays at lunch.
Environmental Club

The goal of the Environmental Club is to take action on improving the environment within the Alcuin community.
Film Club

Film Club members view and critique a variety of mainline and independent films. Members also create original films, including all areas of film making such as screenwriting, storyboarding, location scouting, acting, directing, filming, post-production, scoring, distribution and marketing, which are then submitted to local, regional, and national film festivals.
Investment Club

The mission of the Investment Club is to learn about investing fundamentals through discussion, presentations, invited guests, speakers, and through multi-team participation in the yearly Stock Market Game. The Investment Club gives students the chance to explore the stock market and develop healthy financial habits. All Upper School students are welcome to join and have some fun while learning to invest.
Junior World Affairs Council (JWAC)

JWAC works to improve students' community involvement through awareness practices and service, and offers opportunities through fundraisers, drives, service events, and information on our website and Instagram platforms.
Newspaper

Alcuin Hawk Talk is a printed source of news and information for the Upper School students. Articles range from student experiences with Alcuin, current events, opinion pieces, and highlighting student talents and achievements.
Photography Club

Photography Club members learn and practice the creative and technical aspects of photography and work to develop artistic vision. Students purchase an app that allows them to use their cell phone cameras as they would a DSLR. In this way, they learn the mechanics of a camera, techniques, experience creativity with photography composition themes, and learn editing software to create beautiful and moving images.
UNICEF Club

Alcuin’s UNICEF Club is a student-led initiative that focuses on educating, advocating, and fundraising for UNICEF’s work. The club is directly affiliated with UNICEF USA. The club brainstorms unique methods to engage other students so that they too can provide aid to the world’s most vulnerable children. Discussing global issues leaves members with a better understanding of current events. The club covers a wide range of UNICEF’s Program Areas such as child protection, education, water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Yearbook

Yearbook is a committee that works together to capture all of Alcuin's memories, from everyday classroom activities to annual all-school events. The goal is to create yearbooks that will remind students, faculty, and parents of Alcuin’s close-knit community by recounting the memories that brought people together.
